The Athlete Development Program (ADP) AFL Squad is aimed at male and female student athletes who show potential in the sport of AFL. The Squad aims to provide ADP athletes with coaching and structured training programs to further develop their skills, fitness and knowledge of the sport. 

This program will prepare athletes for the following:

  • SSV Events
  • Vic Country/Vic Metro team selection
  • Bendigo Pioneers, Pioneers Academy and TAC Cup
  • Interschool elite competitions: Maribyrnong Sports Academy and Rowville Sports Academy
  • Transition to Bendigo Senior Secondary AFL Program

Training

The AFL Squad is integrated fully into the ADP: 

  • Training is one – two mornings per week unless otherwise specified
    • 6.45am – 8.15am
      • Workloads are closely monitored and personalised 
  • The AFL Squad utilises the following venues – BSE grounds/stadium, ADP Hub 

Training will involve the following:

  • Fundamental technique and skills development 
  • Video analysis of running and kicking
  • Video and statistical analysis of matches 
  • Game sense and tactical awareness 
  • Hygiene and nutrition
  • Self-monitoring training load
  • Explanations of types of training
  • Fitness development and testing
